Don’t Forget March is American Red Cross Month!

Don’t forget March is American Red Cross Month. I know it’s only the end of January, but this is the perfect time to plan. Plus ordering early will guarantee you stock in the products you want, avoid any rush charges, and get the promotion in your hands on-time!

In light of recent world events, we all know the Red Cross does great things, from organizing blood drives to providing shelter, food, and emotional support to victims of disasters. You can help give back to communities affected by tragedy by organizing outreach programs to raise donations for the Red Cross. Or Give back to your local community by volunteering at a local shelter, hospital, or school. You can buy promotional products to get the word out about your event, thank volunteers for their time, or provide comfort to those receiving care.

T-shirts or sweatshirts make great giveaways at volunteering events. They can be worn during an event to distinguish participants or given out after to thank volunteers for their support. Decorated apparel is one of the most popular and well-received promotional marketing products. And don’t forget 79% of people hold onto a t-shirt for sentimental reasons. Many people who volunteer or participate in charity or reliefs efforts have an emotional connection to the cause.

Other well-received give-a-way ideas at volunteer/charity events: key chains, pins, bracelets, water bottles, towels, or hats.

T-shirt Weights & Blends

T-shirt weights range from the very light (5.3-oz) to a more standard (5.5-oz) on up to the perceived value of a heavier (6.1-oz to 7.1-oz) shirt. The weight you choose can depend on a few factors, such as: budget (the lighter the weight, the cheaper the t-shirt) or use (will the intended recipient wear the shirt to lounge or work-out?)

T-shirts have come a long way from something only men wore under dress shirts. Companies like American Apparel have made the tried and true t-shirt a wardrobe essential. Long gone are the days of boxy t-shirts that were only worn at the gym. T-shirts are now designed with fit and fashion in-mind, making t-shirts (a more popular) than ever give-a-way.

Not only are t-shirt feel and pricing affected by weight, but also the fabric content. Traditionally, the biggest question concerning t-shirts is “100% cotton or poly/cotton blend?” Cotton tees are usually associated with sports because they hold up well through dozens of washings and wearing. But poly/cotton blends have also long been popular for their durability and they do tend to have better fade and shrink resistance (when compared with 100% cotton t-shirts that are not pre-washed).

So, if considering giving away t-shirts at your next event give us a call and we’ll help you find the right fit, fabric, and decoration for your custom t-shirts!

Social Media, A Choice

I, as most advertising and marketing professionals have been reading tons of social media articles every day. One common theme that I’m seeing is hesitation to participate because social media is perceived as “too intrusive.” Well, all you non-participators out there, here’s the thing about social media – you only share what you want. Social media is a choice. You choose what information you want to share and what information you want to engage in. Maybe many non-social media users are under the impression only narcissists engage on Twitter and Facebook. Not the case. You don’t need to update your status with your every move or thought. Nor do you need to post a picture of what you’ve having for lunch (FYI-to those who do-no one cares what you’re eating!) Use social media to keep in touch with family and friends or use it to follow store sales or dinner specials at your favorite restaurants. Learn more about a company by subscribing to their RSS feed. Or check out a business’ rating on Yelp before you work or buy from them.

Social media is lending a voice to consumers like no other outlet ever before. For example, let’s say you recently bought a pair of shoes from company XYZ which you are really disappointed with. Instead of writing an email or letter to XYZ’s customer service department, you can post your dissatisfaction on one of their social media sites or you can rate them on Yelp. Chances are XYZ will react differently or more proactively to your complaint since you’re now voicing it so other customers can hear it. Now, I’m not saying only use social media to complain-please, please don’t just use it to rant. Its just as easy to post a positive note or tweet about a company’s product or service- you never know-maybe they will offer you a discount on your next purchase for your kind words!

Whether you’re on board or not, social media is here to stay- so come on, start participating!

Promos for Germ-O-Phobes

It seems like there is a news story just about every day about all the everyday places (shopping cart handles, escalator rails, kitchen sinks) that are teaming with bacteria and germs. With the news about germs spreading fast (pun intended!), its no suprise that more and more people are becoming germ-o-phobic. The great news is that the promotional products industry offers plenty of products for the clean at heart. Some of our favorites include:

Antimicrobial Telephone Pad: These pads feature antimicrobial protection to inhibit the growth of bacteria, mold, mildew, fungi, and yeast on products. Give these telephone pads (available as a square or circle) to prospects so they can keep your number at their finger tips (while keeping their finger tips germ free!). Each pad is attached to a custom printed marketing card.

Vitamin C Rolls: Instead of handing out candy at tradeshows, put out a bowl of Vitamin C rolls. They’ll keep waist lines down and immune systems up! Each roll can be branded – just like a Lifesavers roll, but with your logo/message.

Individual Tissue Dispensers: Each case has lifetime anti-microbial protection and comes with 15 Kleenex® brand tissues. Plus, the cases are refillable, so your promotion will be used over and over again.

Hand Sanitizer: Choose from hand sanitizer sprays or gels. Don’t forget that your imprint options are endless – from a one color imprint to a full color wrap – the choice is yours. You can even add a carabiner clip or lanyard to spray hand sanitizers so your end user can keep it at arm’s length!

Quick Guide to Wearables

There are hundreds if not thousands of wearable terms; below is a quick guide to the wearables that are popular in the promotional products industry.

Raglan is a loosing fitting style with sleeves that extend to the collar instead of ending at the shoulders. This sleeve style is attached with slanting seams running from the under arm to the neck. Raglan is a popular shirt style for sport shits and is more commonly referred to as a “baseball” shirt.

Cotton is a soft vegetable fiber obtained from the seedpod of the cotton plant and one of the major fashion fibers in textiles. The longer the fiber, the better quality cotton. Lengths vary from less than one-half inch to more than two inches. Cotton and cotton blends are the most popular fabrics in the promotional products industry.

Tackle twill is another term for letters or numbers that are cut from polyester or rayon twill fabric. Tackle twill is commonly used on athletic-style sweatshirts- think American Eagle and Abercrombie. While tackle twill is most common at retail, it can also be used on any promotional apparel.

Mercerizing is a special fabric-finishing process that is used extensively on cotton or hemp fabrics. It consists of treating the material with a cold, strong sodium hydroxide. The treatment increases the fabric’s strength and ability to accept dyes it and gives the finished fabric a lustrous look and soft, silk-like feel. Polo-style shirts are often made from mercerized fabrics.

Seersucker is a lightweight, cotton-type, color-striped or checked fabric with permanent, lengthwise, alternating, puckered stripes, and felt strip sections. Seersucker is woven so that some threads bunch together, giving the fabric a wrinkled appearance in places. You usually see seersucker apparel worn during the spring and summer. Seersucker is not a common choice for promotional products but when worn at the right event it can really make you stand out in a crowd.

Micro-fleece is a kind of high-density anti-pilling fleece made from microfiber that’s brushed less than a regular fleece. It’s very warm but light weight and breathable. Most jacket ‘inserts’ are micro-fleece.

Jersey Fabric is a type of knit textile made from cotton or a cotton and synthetic blend. Jersey fabric is commonly used in the promotional products industry as material for t-shirts and blankets. The fabric is flexible, stretchy, and very insulating, making it a popular choice for the layer worn closest to the body. Jersey fabric is very soft and comfortable to wear.

Moisture management fabric wicks moisture away form the skin. The fabric is produced either by chemically treating the fibers or fabric, or through a process of forming the yarns with channels for the moisture to travel. Polo and mock turtle neck style shirts are popular moisture management or moisture wicking shirts in the promotional products industry.

Rib Knit is a basic stitch which requires knitting machines to use two sets of needles operating at right angles to each other. Rib knits have a very high degree of elasticity in the crosswise direction. This knitted fabric is used for sleeve bands, neckbands, sweater waistbands. Lightweight sweaters in rib knits provide a close, body-hugging fit.

Product Spotlight: Oomy Desk Top Tools

If you are looking for totally silly but functional desk-top items, check out the office tools from Oomy. Most of the products are launching in January 2010, just watch the video to see the complete collection of pencil & paper clip holders, letter openers, cable organizers, tape dispenser, desk top holder, and bookmarks. All of the products come in fun colors- lime green, teal, white, yellow, and red and can be imprinted with your message or logo. The products are designed around a cute little character, which seems to take on a new persona in each desk top piece.

My favorite piece is the letter opener, the character transforms into a ninja holding a sword-who’s ready to attack your mail! Oomy desk top items make great inter-office give-a-ways and along with bringing a smile to your face, they are functional so you won’t be adding more useless tchotchkes to your collection!

Keeping Germs At Bay During Tradeshows & Annual Meetings

How icky do your hands feel after shaking hundreds of hands at tradeshows or sales meetings? You can’t stop in the bathroom to wash your hands after every hand shake, but you can carry sanitizing sprays or gels to cut down on the germs you’re being exposed to.

If your company plans on attending or hosting tradeshows, annual, or sales meetings, consider giving attendees branded hand sanitizer. Trust me, your giveaway will be a huge hit since we’re heavy into cold and flu season and with the swine flu making its rounds it is increasingly important to hand wash or sanitize frequently. Hand sanitizer is a great giveaway because your end user will use it at the tradeshow and after they leave- which will keep your brand on their mind. Plus, nothing gets people talking like great free stuff- especially when it’s useful!

Choose from hand sanitizer spray or gels. Don’t forget that your imprint options are endless from one color to full color wrap-the choice is yours. You can even add a carabineer clip or lanyard to spray hand sanitizers so your end user can keep it at arm’s length!

Give us a call and we’ll help you find the right hand sanitizer at the right price for your event.
