Foursquare Day Annapolis
We’ve taken an unabashed cue from Frederick, Maryland and are celebrating the first Foursquare Day with a special Annapolis Foursquare Day Scavenger Hunt! If you don’t already know, Foursquare is a location-based social marketing application for your cell phone that aims to encourage people to explore their neighborhoods and then rewards them for doing so. It does this by combining friend-finder and social city guide elements with game mechanics – users earn points, win mayorships and unlock badges for trying new places and revisiting old favorites.
The first Foursquare Day is being held this Friday, April 16 (4/16) and will be marked by celebrations in more than 72 cities around the world. Here in Annapolis, Quintain Marketing and the Annapolis Sustainable Business Alliance have come up with a fun scavenger hunt that will take you on a tour of some really excellent local businesses.
There are 12 different stops from which to choose, but to be eligible for the prize you must visit 6 of the locations, check-in on Foursquare and take the specified picture. Once you complete 6 stops, you must come to the Market House between 3 and 5 pm on Friday to have your pictures verified. Once verified, you will be entered into a drawing for a basket of Annapolis-related goodies including a $50 American Express gift card that you can use to shop at any of the locations you visit on your hunt!
Here is the list of locations (addresses available at www.annapolisfirst.org) and required pictures:
1. Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Conference and Visitors Bureau. A great place to start! Find a Visitor’s Guide and take a shot.
2. A Cook’s Cafe. Take a picture of the mural on the wall outside Craig’s office.
3. The Annapolis Bookstore. Find a Harry Potter book and take its picture.
4. Ron George Jewelers. Snap a shot of the sign.
5. Tilghman Co Jewelers. Get a picture of anything with pearls.
6. Free State Press. Take a picture of a copy machine.
7. Palate Pleasers. A picture of fresh baked goods is all you need here.
8. 49 West. Get a shot of the menu.
9. Tsunami. Snap a shot of the hostess’ stand.
10. Wild Orchid Cafe. Take a picture of the menu.
11. Stevens Hardware. Find a hammer – take a picture.
12. Mixed Greens. Finish here. Snap a picture of the person working behind the counter and then head to the Market House to show your pics and your Foursquare check ins for a chance to win!
Remember, you only need to complete 6 of the above to qualify for the drawing. Bring your camera and phone (or camera phone!) to the Market House between 3 and 5 to be checked in and entered into the drawing. Remember if you check into 10 places during the day you can get the Overshare badge from Foursquare.
We’re looking forward to seeing you all out and about on Friday! The Twitter Hashtag for the event is: #4sqDayAnnap
