Quintain Marketing Supports Team Eastport in the “Slaughter Across the Water”
Annapolis, MD November 1, 2008 -
Located in the Eastport section of Annapolis, Maryland, Quintain Marketing supported its home turf at the 11th annual Tug of War between the Maritime Republic of Eastport (MRE) and Downtown Annapolis. Dubbed the “Slaughter Across the Water,” the Tug features a 1700-foot rope, over 450 tuggers, and draws more than a thousand spectators. It is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the “Longest Tug of War Over Water.” To keep spirits up on the Eastport side, Quintain provided “Terrible Tug Towels” to spectators and tuggers alike.
“The Tug of War is a fantastic and unique event. Not only does it build a sense of community in Eastport – it is an important fundraiser supporting a number of local charities,” said Kathleen Booth, Quintain Marketing’s Owner and CEO. “For us, it is also a great chance to give back to the community in which we live and work, and we are thrilled to be a part of the event.”
This year, the funds raised by the Tug of War will benefit the SPCA of Anne Arundel County, Eastport Elementary School’s Reading is Fundamental program, the Civil Air Patrol, and the OIC Job Readiness Center. All of the organizations are non-profits working in Eastport and Annapolis. Over the past ten years, the MRE has raised more than $190,000 for local charities through the Tug of War.
The Maritime Republic of Eastport was created in 1998. The prime mission was to find a creative way to promote and encourage the patronage of Eastport businesses that were destined to be hurt by the Maryland State Highway Administration’s shutting down for repair of the drawbridge connecting mainland Annapolis with the Eastport peninsula.
